DNS and edge, built and run in the UK.

VoltaCloud runs private filtering DNS and authoritative nameservers from UK data centres, with a CDN edge on the way.

Where it runs today

Solid pins are servers in service and dashed pins are planned. Status, latency and uptime come from probes that check each public endpoint every 15 seconds.

Latency is measured from our monitor in Germany, so it is not what you will see from the UK.

VoltaDNS: private, filtered DNS for every device

Point a phone, a laptop or a whole network at VoltaDNS and it blocks ads, trackers and threats before they load.

  • Encrypted on every device

DNS over HTTPS, TLS and QUIC, set up per phone, laptop or router.

  • Profiles and parental controls

Different rules for each person, with SafeSearch and blocked services for children.

  • A block page that explains itself

Blocked sites say why, and people can ask for an unblock.

  • Logs kept for 30 days, then deleted

Query logs power your analytics and sit on servers we run in the UK and Germany.

VoltaEdge: the network underneath

Two UK nameservers hold our zones today, ready to take over from our current DNS provider. A CDN and a web application firewall come next.

What comes next

The network grows in steps. This is the order we are building it in.

  1. Now, live

    • VoltaDNS filtering resolver in London
    • Authoritative nameservers in London and Manchester
    • A second resolver in Portsmouth, answering alongside London
  2. Next

    • GeoDNS: each device uses the nearest healthy resolver
    • Our own nameservers take over voltacloud.co.uk and voltaservices.uk, signed with DNSSEC
    • IPv6 on every node, and DNS over HTTPS on HTTP/3
  3. Later

    • CDN edges in London, Manchester and Birmingham
    • Caching, TLS and a web application firewall at each edge
  4. Further out

    • Our own AS number and IP space
    • Anycast routing over BGP in place of GeoDNS
